Job Summary
As a Prisoner Custody Officer (PCO) in Prisoner Escort Custody Services (PECS), you will work as part of a team to deliver safe and secure escorting and custody services, ensuring detainee welfare during court proceedings. Key duties include escorting detainees within court facilities, supervising hearings to maintain safety, managing sensitive situations, monitoring behaviour and risks, conducting searches to maintain security, completing accurate records and documentation, and collaborating with court staff. The role includes full training (51/2 weeks) and ongoing support, with a requirement for flexibility due to 24/6 operations and potential overtime. A Full UK driving licence is desirable, along with strong communication, calm decision-making under pressure, conflict de-escalation, teamwork, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Required Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence (B/B1) desirable
- Reasonable fitness for the physical demands of the role
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to stay calm and make decisions under pressure
- Confidence managing behaviour and de-escalating conflict
- Teamwork and the ability to follow processes accurately
- Professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidentiality
