Job Summary
Principal FX Artist for Rocket League live-service: lead the FX systems and quality, designing reusable and scalable solutions to support rapid iteration and long-term production across gameplay, cosmetics, and arenas. Create extraordinary real-time effects in a variety of styles, from realistic to stylized and high-energy. Collaborate with Tech Art and Engineering to set performance goals and achieve them without compromising visual quality. Prototype and validate new VFX workflows; establish quality standards and elevate the team’s overall skill and potential. Mentor artists across disciplines to raise overall output. Requires a real-time FX portfolio with released titles, deep proficiency with Niagara and Unreal Engine materials, shader experience (HLSL or Material Editor), scripting ability (Python/Blueprint), solid GPU performance understanding, and experience shipping multiple game titles; live-service experience is a plus and Houdini is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- Real-time FX portfolio required (titles released preferred)
- Deep proficiency with Niagara and Unreal Engine Materials system
- Experience creating shaders via HLSL or Material Editor
- Experience with scripting (Python, Blueprint or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of GPU performance (draw calls, particle cost, memory) and track record of optimization without sacrificing visuals
- VFX timing, weight, and motion sense grounded in real-world behavior
- Experience shipping multiple game titles
- Experience with live-service games is a plus
- Experience with Houdini is a plus
