Principal Technical Lead for Electrical Appliances

Job Summary
Provide senior technical leadership for Electrical Appliances products by interpreting standards, developing compliance paths for new technologies, and resolving disputes among stakeholders. Deliver clear, timely guidance while maintaining SME knowledge through industry committee engagement, networking, and sharing expertise. Build and leverage a strong industry network by contributing thought leadership via research and presentations, and identify opportunities to advance CSA's interests. Assist with complex projects, mentor staff, and act as a technical expert in legal investigations related to product incidents. Establish technical benchmarks, ensure global consistency in standards, and align senior technical staff across regions. Deliver training, coach staff, and support the development of technical training systems. Maintain company accreditations, develop certification documentation templates, support audits and gap analysis, and contribute to strategic initiatives. Ensure expertise in safety practices, contribute to job safety analysis, identify hazards during site visits, complete safety training, and support emergency response procedures. Participate in standards research activities. Requires 10 years of relevant experience in electrical appliances, a university degree in engineering, and the ability to travel globally.
Required Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant discipline of engineering
- Professional registration
- Ten (10) years of relevant experience in the Electrical appliances area
- Experience in standards development activities
- Must have exceptional interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), and presentation skills
- Strong training skills
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
- Ability to constructively manage conflict
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills
- In-depth knowledge about electrical safety standards and codes in the electrical appliance product area (examples: CSA C22.2 No. 112 & UL 2158, CSA C22.2 No. 169 & UL 2157, CSA C22.2 No. 61 & UL 858, CSA C22.2 No. 150 & UL 923, etc.)
- Must be flexible and perform well in a team environment under pressure, with multiple projects and deadlines
- Must be willing to travel globally
- Must have demonstrated competence for the position and commitment to technical excellence
- Must have strong computer skills
Desired Qualifications
- University degree in a relevant discipline of engineering and professional registration is preferable
