Job Summary
Principal Surface Water Engineer role within SLR’s APAC Hydrology and Hydrogeology team. Based in Brisbane or Townsville, you’ll deliver surface water environmental assessments and hydraulic/water balance modelling for a range of sectors (infrastructure, mining, renewables, built environment). You’ll apply hydrologic/hydraulic modelling software, develop models, prepare quality reports, foster internal/external client relationships, contribute to work-winning activities and proposals, and provide high-level technical review with commercial awareness. The ideal candidate has 10-15+ years’ consultancy experience, a relevant engineering qualification, and aims to achieve RPEQ within six months, with strong communication and mentoring capabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Engineering tertiary qualification (Bachelor's or higher)
- Registration as a Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or eligibility to achieve RPEQ within six months of hire
- Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling (two-dimensional) including TUFLOW
- Experience in hydrologic modelling (RORB, WBNM, XP RAFTS) and familiarity with Australian Rainfall and Runoff guidelines
- Knowledge of surface water engineering areas such as stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, water quality, streamflow assessments, flood risk analysis, and site water management
- Experience in design of water-related structures (dams, levees, diversions)
- Experience with MUSIC or GoldSim modelling is highly regarded but not essential
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills
- Proven project management and client-relations capabilities
- Mentoring, training or supervising staff experience
- Strong track record in building and maintaining client relationships
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
