Principal Structural Designer/Draftsperson

Job Summary
Lead preparation of structural 3D models and detailed design documentation using Microstation, Open Buildings, and Open Bridge for concrete, steel, and civil infrastructure projects. Develop and manage templates aligned with project and company BIM standards, producing high-quality design documentation including general arrangement drawings, reinforcement detailing, and steelwork schedules. Coordinate structural models and drawings with civil, mechanical, electrical, and other disciplines to ensure fully integrated outcomes. Support engineers with design development by interpreting calculations and sketches, while participating in clash detection, model reviews, and constructability assessments. Perform and oversee drawing checks prior to issue, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, codes, and client specifications. Provide technical guidance, coordination, and mentorship to designers and draftspersons, supporting continuous improvement in drafting and BIM practices.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Structural or Civil Engineering Drafting
- equivalent practical experience
- strong background delivering civil and structural design for infrastructure projects
- comfortable working in 3D design environments within multidisciplinary teams
- demonstrated experience using Microstation
- demonstrated experience using Open Buildings
- demonstrated experience using Open Bridge
- solid understanding of construction methods
- solid understanding of coordination requirements
- solid understanding of Australian Standards
