Job Summary
Principal Software Engineer to support the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapons System (GWS) on the GMD Fire Control (GFC) product in Huntsville, AL. Responsibilities include understanding, implementing, and testing existing and new capabilities and algorithms (including complex mathematics and physics-based solutions) that support GWS capabilities, contributing to software written for the missile-defense system, thriving in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment across experience levels, and working in a in-person/closed-area setting with travel as needed. Required qualifications include a STEM degree with several years of related experience (or advanced degrees with fewer years), proficiency in C++/Java/Ada (and willingness to learn Ada), strong communication, independent and team work capability, and an active DoD Secret clearance. The role emphasizes hands-on software development, testing, and integration within the DoD program context.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited university and 5 years of related work experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of related work experience, or 1 year of related work experience with a PhD
- Experience developing software in C++ or Java or Ada
- Willingness to become proficient with Ada software development
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to think critically and capture concepts in work products, presentations, and discussions
- Capable of working independently and within a team
- Must be able to work in an in-person/closed-area work environment
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
- Active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at time of application
