Job Summary
The Principal Software Engineer will serve as the technical leader responsible for architecting, designing, and guiding the development of robust, scalable solutions that power Mastercard's offers ecosystem. Key responsibilities include setting engineering standards, mentoring senior engineers, and overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of platform enhancements. They will analyze complex business requirements, propose technical solutions, and lead critical projects from conception to deployment, ensuring best practices in software development, performance optimization, and security. Core activities include leading architecture and design of core offers platform components; collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact features; mentoring engineers; driving platform scalability, reliability, and performance improvements; staying current with emerging technologies; championing code quality, automation, and CI; and communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
- Extensive background in software engineering including platform architecture and technical leadership
- Hands-on experience building enterprise-scale applications using Java and related JVM technologies
- Proven expertise designing and implementing RESTful web services, APIs, and microservices-based architectures
- Experience with Spring ecosystem technologies (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Cloud)
- Strong database experience (PostgreSQL; NoSQL familiarity is a plus)
- Experience with modern front-end technologies (React, JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS)
- Experience with distributed systems using big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka)
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native development and deployment (AWS, PCF, Kubernetes, Docker)
- Understanding of API design, observability, resiliency, and secure software development practices
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps tools (Jenkins, Git, Maven, Gradle, SonarQube)
- Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving skills
- Security, scalability, reliability, and high-availability principles
