Job Summary
Principal Software Engineer for Cisco Cloud Control, hybrid role based out of Cisco’s San Jose office. Join a high-velocity team building an AI-powered cloud management platform. You will build services and libraries for a model-driven, multi-tenant application platform, design and implement stream-processing data pipelines for events and CDC, translate declarative models into platform behavior (APIs, schemas, validation, permissions, runtime contracts), and create reusable platform capabilities. You will design tenant isolation and access-control boundaries, improve developer experience through clear APIs, code generation, testing patterns, and GitHub workflows, and partner with product teams to convert ambiguous requirements into concrete increments. Minimum qualifications include an advanced degree with substantial relevant experience and proven ability to design and operate scalable distributed systems with strong security boundaries; preferred qualifications emphasize AI-first mindset, shared infrastructure, schema-driven development, and mentoring across teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 15 years of experience, Master’s degree with 12 years of experience, or PhD with 8 years of relevant experience
- Ability to build and operate scalable, highly distributed multi-tenant systems with strict isolation and security boundaries
- Expertise in stream-processing architectures using Kafka or equivalent technologies, including experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) systems like Kafka Connect
- Experience in building external-facing developer platforms or infrastructure-focused products
- Proficiency in end-to-end system design (including observability, failure handling, and ergonomics) and the implementation of complex authorization models such as RBAC, ABAC, or policy-based enforcement
- Ability to mentor team members and drive technical decision-making across cross-functional boundaries
