Job Summary
Principal Research Scientist II leads analytical development for late-stage biologics in AbbVie’s Biologics division, focusing on separation-based assays (HPLC, capillary electrophoresis) for mab/DS programs, acting as process analytics lead within CMC teams, developing high-throughput analytical methods, and authoring regulatory submissions. The role requires a PhD with 8+ years in biotech/pharma, expertise in HPLC/capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometry, strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to drive timely, compliant analytical results and technical documentation for IND/BLA filings.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related technical discipline
- Minimum 8+ years of professional experience in biotech/pharmaceutical setting
- Proven experience managing and leading analytical development activities for late-stage biologic development (mAbs, multi-specifics, antibody-drug conjugates, fusion proteins)
- Expertise in protein and impurity analysis techniques such as HPLC, capillary electrophoresis; experience with mass spectrometry and ELISA is a plus
- Strong technical writing abilities including regulatory submissions experience
- Strong people leadership skills and ability to foster an engaging, inclusive and collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work across functions and manage relationships
- Ability to think critically, troubleshoot, and address evolving project needs
- Independent, self-motivated, proactive with a fast-paced team environment
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and ability to prepare/participate in IND/BLA filings
- Willingness to work in a role that may involve cross-functional collaboration across R&D and clinical development teams
