Principal Research Developer: AEC Data - Generative AI

Job Summary
Principal Research Developer on Autodesk’s AEC Solutions team; collaborate with developers and scientists to build scalable data pipelines for BIM, CAD, and infrastructure design data; work with multi-modal datasets (text and geometric data) to design preprocessing, augmentation, analysis, and content understanding; transform unstructured AEC data into ML-friendly representations; lead cross-functional collaboration to align data formats with ML training and fine-tuning of large language models; apply deduplication, normalization, and validation for production data; architect and optimize pipelines for scalability and cloud deployment; mentor junior developers; drive technical decision-making; communicate findings through quantitative analyses, visualizations, and clear documentation; participate in agile workflows and roadmap planning; require MSc/PhD and 5–8+ years of ML/engineering experience with strong Python and cloud skills; preferred experience with AEC data formats (BIM/IFC), PyTorch, AWS/SageMaker, and production ML/data systems.
Required Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 5–8+ years of experience in Machine Learning, Engineering, or related fields
- Proven technical leadership in cross-functional teams
- Strong experience with geometric data modeling and processing (2D/3D, computational geometry)
- Familiarity with ML concepts and frameworks and data representation for training
- Proficiency in Python and solid software development practices
- Ability to translate research ideas into production-grade systems
- Excellent communication and ability to influence technical decisions
- Experience with AEC data formats/workflows (BIM, IFC, CAD) is a plus
- Experience building scalable data/ML pipelines in cloud environments (AWS, SageMaker)
- Experience mentoring senior engineers or leading small teams
- Track record of driving technical innovation and best practices
