Job Summary
Principal Platform Architect role overseeing platform architecture and AI enablement across the company. Lead a small platform team in system design, architecture, and implementation, own platform services (APIs, data contracts, async messaging), and drive AI-augmented workflows as a core part of the platform. Serve as the primary architectural authority for platform-level decisions, mentor the platform team (2 engineers), ensure production-ready, scalable, fault-tolerant systems, and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. Role emphasizes tradeoff-driven design, code quality, governance of architectural standards, and collaboration across distributed teams. Requires hands-on experience with AI-powered systems, distributed architectures, and cloud-native patterns on AWS, with strong English communication and the ability to work with a distributed team. Timezone overlap with New York (ET) is required; Russian language skills are a plus.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 3-4 years in a principal, staff, or platform architecture role
- Expertise in Java including modern JVM performance, concurrency, and service design; experience with Micronaut or Spring Boot
- Distributed systems, event-driven architecture, API design (REST/GraphQL), service mesh, cloud-native patterns on AWS
- Hands-on experience designing, evaluating, or building AI-powered systems using modern LLM technologies; agent orchestration frameworks, tool integration, retrieval systems, memory architectures preferred
- Data modeling, async messaging (Kafka or similar), caching strategies at scale
- Experience setting and enforcing cross-team architectural standards
- Excellent English communication skills; able to lead technical conversations across a distributed team
- Timezone availability: minimum 4 hours overlap with New York (ET)
- Nice to have: experience with Rust, GraalVM native images, Kubernetes, Helm, production EKS environments
- Background in ecommerce, subscription platforms, or high-scale consumer products
- Russian language proficiency is a plus
