Principal of Interiors - New York Metro

Job Summary

Provide strategic vision and day-to-day administration of the Interiors group, developing and executing business plans to align with regional goals. Partner with office leadership to review fee proposals, maintain project action plans, and enforce contract conditions while working with project managers to ensure profitability. Lead local and regional marketing strategies, pursue new business opportunities, and prepare for RFQ/RFP responses including scope development and interview coordination. Mentor staff, conduct performance evaluations, allocate workloads, and recruit professional personnel to build appropriate team levels. Maintain industry membership and stay current on new technologies and design developments. This role requires a hybrid schedule with mandatory in-office presence in the NYC office, with a deadline to fill by October 29, 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • BS/BA +10 years of related experience with an Architectural and Engineering firm, with at least 2 years of experience acting in a leadership or practice-building capacity or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education
  • 3 years of Marketing, Design and/or Project Management experience for Federal, NYC Agencies, Transportation, Aviation, Education, CCRE (Corporate Commercial Real Estate), or commercial interiors markets
  • Registered/Certified Interior Designer (NCIDQ) or Architect with current license
  • US citizenship
  • Visa sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now, or in the future, for this position
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position
  • Hybrid work schedule which includes in-office work in (Location)
  • The selected candidate must be available to work in the NYC office on a scheduled basis
  • All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment

Desired Qualifications

  • 15+ years of related experience including 10+ years acting in a leadership or management capacity is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years experience working in a multi-disciplinary practice
  • Demonstrated ability to grow a practice and meet planned revenue targets
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal/presentation and written
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Be able to respond to changing demands
  • Strong leadership and team building skills with strong initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Experience in marketing, design, project management and practice-building/business development
