Principal Member of Technical Staff, Full-stack Engineer

Job Summary
Design, implement, and maintain backend services, APIs, and databases powering the scientific discovery platform. Contribute to frontend features and workflows by partnering with design and frontend teammates to deliver cohesive user experiences. Build and extend data pipelines supporting AI agents and research workflows while implementing monitoring, observability, and automated testing to ensure system reliability. Troubleshoot issues across the stack and proactively improve system quality through collaboration with engineering, design, and research teams to ship new AI-driven features. This role is on-site at our San Francisco office in the Dogpatch neighborhood.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- exposure to both backend and frontend development
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python, Node.js)
- interest in deepening backend expertise
- experience designing and consuming APIs
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Next.js, or similar) and modern web development practices
- Working knowledge of relational or document databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar)
- Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerized environments (Docker; Kubernetes)
- Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and basic automated testing
- Strong curiosity, a growth mindset, and eagerness to learn in a fast-moving environment
- This position is on-site at our San Francisco office in the Dogpatch neighborhood

- Experience with data-heavy systems, scientific tooling, or ML/AI-adjacent platforms
- Prior work in startups or small teams with end-to-end ownership
