Job Summary
Work with hardware design teams to influence design producibility and lead Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) engagements to drive cost out of the design. Perform and review one-dimensional tolerance analyses, leverage CAD tools such as DFM-Pro to analyze and optimize designs, and track DFMA engagements completed by discipline. Assess suppliers for capability and readiness, negotiate design modifications, and manage product cost reduction initiatives toward a product cost target. Occasional travel is required to support supplier activities and collaborate with department peers. This Principal Mechanical Producibility Engineer role is remote-based within the Producibility and Prototyping Center, which develops advanced product development capabilities across the Hardware Engineering discipline.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. government issued security clearance
- U.S. citizenship
- University Degree or equivalent experience
- 8 years prior relevant experience
- Advanced Degree in a related field
- 5 years' experience
- Experience with and detailed knowledge of one or more manufacturing process such as machining, casting, welding, forging, injection mold, etc.
- Experience with Design for Manufacturing and/or Assembly workshops
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance
- Active and existing security clearance
- Certified Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) Lead
- Raytheon CORE apprentice certification or equivalent external process improvement certification, such as Six Sigma, Lean, TPS, DFSS
- ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing Professional Certification
- Experience performing two or three-dimensional tolerance analyses
- Exposure and or basic understanding of more than one of the following standard manufacturing processes such as: multi axis machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, 3-D printing, welding, precision mechanical assembly, and mechanical inspection
