Job Summary
Principal Mechanical Engineer – Hydraulics and Machine Design responsible for the design, development, and integration of dynamic electro-mechanical systems with a focus on hydraulic systems (pumps, hydraulic components, fittings, and tubes) and mechanical hardware such as gear boxes and motors. Responsibilities include design/documentation of legacy and future hydraulic systems, component analysis to meet actuated equipment requirements, prototype build, integration, and testing to validate compliance with customer requirements, peer reviews, and mentorship within an IPT. Collaboration with Electrical, Systems, and Test Engineering to ensure lifecycle compliance for military communications and trailing wire systems. Requires ability to communicate technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders and to work onsite in Richardson, TX; U.S. citizenship and security clearance requirements apply. Qualifications emphasize DoD/DoD-style standards, CAD/FEA proficiency, and a strong background in hydraulic systems within aerospace/defense contexts.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience or advanced degree with minimum 5 years of experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance; U.S. citizenship required
- Experience in design and qualifications of military or automotive hydraulic systems and interaction with dynamic components
- Experience with RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards
- Experience with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Siemens NX
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and related tools (e.g., ANSYS, CFD++, Fluent)
- Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience with fatigue, modal, random vibration, transient shock, and acoustic analyses
- Experience with MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-STD-461
