Job Summary
Principal Mechanical Engineer role leading forensic investigations to determine origin and root causes of construction defects and mechanical failures. Lead regional mechanical engineering teams across multiple offices, expand presence in Canada, oversee project delivery, and provide expert reports and testimony for insurance, legal, and government clients. Responsibilities include directing design restoration and reconstruction work, cost estimates, building permits, site inspections, root-cause analyses, developing repair and reconstruction recommendations, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring high-quality technical deliverables while building and maintaining client relationships. Travel to sites and frequent visits to worksites are required; combines fieldwork with office/remote work within a flexible, hybrid environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and/or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
- Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng) in Canada and/or (P.E.) in the U.S. required
- Multi-jurisdictional licensing or eligibility
- Experience (15+ years) in forensic investigation and failure analysis
- Experience with large-scale complex structural systems in steel, concrete, wood
- Experience supporting insurance claims, risk assessments and litigation
- Expert witness experience is a plus
