Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services

Job Summary
Lead mechanical engineering design and delivery for major building projects across healthcare, education, transport, and data centre sectors. Manage multidisciplinary project teams, coordinate with electrical, structural, and architectural disciplines, and act as technical lead ensuring compliance with Irish and international standards. Develop innovative, low-carbon building services solutions while building client relationships and managing project programmes, budgets, and commercial performance. Review engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation, and mentor junior engineers to support their professional development. Participate in business development activities including proposal preparation and client presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership with Engineers Ireland or an equivalent professional institution
- Significant experience in the design and delivery of mechanical building services projects
- Proven experience leading multidisciplinary project teams
- Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, public health systems, heating and cooling plant, low-carbon technologies and sustainable building design
- Experience delivering projects within one or more of the following sectors: Healthcare, Education, Railway stations and transport infrastructure, Mission-critical data centres
- Excellent communication, leadership and client management skills
- Strong understanding of Irish Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, relevant British Standards and European Standards
