Job Summary
Lead the design and development of electromechanical systems as part of a cross-disciplinary product team. Independently own and drive from conceptualization to production-ready designs, prototyping, testing, and field support. Translate customer needs into system-level requirements, develop robust designs, execute tests to distinguish between candidate solutions, and coordinate with customers, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to ensure on-time delivery. Produce production and support documentation (BOMs, fabrication/assembly drawings, maintenance instructions) and perform reliability, manufacturability, and tolerance analyses. Oversee junior team members, set milestones, and contribute to risk management, safety, and long-term reliability of capital equipment. Proficient in SolidWorks and PLM; experience with 3D CAD, DFMEA/PFMEA, GD&T, and DFMA/Six Sigma is required. Prototyping and hands-on fabrication are expected, with travel to suppliers/customers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering
- Eight or more years of related work experience with industrial automation or robotics
- Mastery of 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, including 2D drawings, simulations, and PDM
- Significant experience designing motion control systems with sensors, actuators and complex mechanisms
- Significant experience designing systems for industrial settings balancing cost and durability over equipment lifecycle
- Experience with ASME drafting standards including GD&T (Y14.5-2009)
- Detailed knowledge of DFM/A, Six Sigma, and statistical tolerance analysis
- Knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA and fault tree analysis
- Experience working with customers, component suppliers and contract manufacturers
- Ability to set aggressive yet feasible schedules and milestones
- Strong technical writing skills (specs, test plans, reports, white papers)
- Ability to handle minimal electrical design (cable harnesses, wiring diagrams, grounding strategies) is a plus
- Willingness to travel up to 10%
