Job Summary
Lead the design and delivery of bespoke mechanical handling and lifting equipment for submarine and warship refit programmes in a forward-thinking, agile environment. As Principal Mechanical Engineer, you’ll oversee technical reviews, sign off designs and calculations, provide design consultancy for non-nuclear and nuclear mechanical systems, and lead a team of engineers to deliver bespoke equipment for refit support operations. Responsibilities include reviewing documentation, attending authorisation group meetings, conducting asset condition surveys, preparing health reports, responding to technical queries, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role requires extensive mechanical engineering experience, proficiency with 3D design tools (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD), experience with FEA and hand calculations, and eligibility for UK security clearance (NNPPI). Required Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering degree or CEng accreditation or qualified by experience
- Chartered Engineer status (Desirable)
- Security clearance (NNPPI)
- Ability to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) clearance
