Job Summary
Principal Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in tooling and factory automation for Terran R production. Responsible for designing and developing high-quality tooling and automation solutions, integrating mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects, applying ASME Y14.5 standards to tooling drawings, and collaborating with design, manufacturing, and integration teams to optimize safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, and maintenance. Works with vendors through selection, fabrication, inspection, installation, and commissioning of tooling; emphasizes design-for-manufacture/assembly, materials knowledge, GD&T, and a broad range of tooling and fixture types; demonstrates leadership in project management, cross-functional coordination, and delivering production-ready tooling for aerospace manufacturing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or equivalent
- 15+ years of work or project experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly and test
- Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (NX and ANSYS Workbench preferred) for structural applications
- Experience in full-cycle project completion
- Experience in strategic buildout and project management of tooling supporting production
