Principal LV Engineer (Rail)

Job Summary
Lead and manage electrical design packages across rail infrastructure projects, including Rail Stations M&E, lineside low voltage systems, platform lighting, and signalling power. Act as Lead Engineer or Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE), ensuring compliance with client requirements, industry standards, and safety regulations. Prepare technical reports, electrical calculations, and CAD drawings while providing commercial oversight, design planning, and quality assurance. Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated, constructible solutions. Requires 12+ years of railway electrification experience, Chartered status, and proficiency in MicroStation and ETAP. Full project lifecycle involvement from feasibility through construction support.
Required Qualifications
- BE/ BTech or ME/MTech degree in Electrical Engineering
- Chartered (or actively working towards chartership) with a recognised institution (e.g. IET) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent in the relevant field from any global organization
- 12 + years of experience in railway Electrification & Power design and delivery
- Experience in leading projects as a checker, CRE or Lead Engineer
- Deep knowledge of Rail low voltage systems, particularly Lighting, Points Heating, and Signalling Power
- Proficient in use of MicroStation, ETAP, AMETECH Trimble Pro Design, Electrical OM and DiaLux Evo
- Strong technical writing, Excellent communication, coordination and stakeholder engagement skills
- A collaborative and proactive mindset with the ability to lead, mentor and influence others
- All newly hired employees are required to attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office location as a condition of employment
Desired Qualifications
- Experienced in the use of international, UK Network Rail, and Railway Group Standards as well as the relevant British Standards and Eurocodes
