Principal Investigator - Archaeologist

Job Summary
Conduct archaeological fieldwork in Texas and surrounding states, identifying artifacts and determining site presence while collecting data and samples. Analyze historic and prehistoric artifacts, document methodologies and findings, and write portions of archaeological reports and site forms. Assist in project decision-making regarding alternatives and adverse effects, working with technical, lab, and office staff to ensure JMT and professional quality standards. May support business development by preparing proposals, budgets, and marketing materials. This role offers growth opportunities to expand the JMT cultural resources group in Texas.
Required Qualifications
- Masters Degree from an accredited school in anthropology or a closely related field
- Must meet the Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards for Archaeologists
- 5+ years of experience
- At least 3 of those years need to involve leadership positions
- Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Heritage Preservation Act and with the Antiquities Code of Texas
- Ability to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit
- Regional (Texas/Oklahoma/Louisiana) experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology
- Demonstrated skills and supervisory experience in Phase I-III fieldwork
- Must be able to provide a writing sample from either a thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report
- Must possess a valid drivers license
- Experience with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations
- The qualified applicant must provide a list of at least 3 professional references with contact information
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
Desired Qualifications
- CRM experience preferred
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (or ability to become registered)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, ArcGISPro, Field Maps, Google Earth, ArcMap and/or other GIS programs
- Significant lab and curation experience
