Job Summary

Utilize AI-assisted coding and modern software tools to accelerate protocol generation, simulation, debugging, and automated error recovery for complex sequencing workflows. Design, build, and operate custom test fixtures while translating system requirements into fluidic schematics and CAD models. Lead cross-functional strategy by partnering with scientists and engineers to conduct concept reviews and influence product roadmaps. Mentor junior staff and maintain comprehensive documentation for all research and development activities. This on-site role in Santa Clara, CA, involves 5-day workweeks with a connector shuttle to Pleasanton, CA.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Bioengineering or Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Relevant industry experience (12+ years for a Bachelor's, 10+ years for a Master's, or 7+ years for a PhD)
  • Deep, hands-on expertise characterizing and testing complex automation systems for sequencing or diagnostics
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using modern AI-assisted tools to accelerate code generation, parse schemas, and automate test cases
  • Experience with markup and programming languages (e.g., XML, Python) used to define automated instrument steps and hardware execution
  • Strong background in experimental design
  • High proficiency with machine shop tools, measurement equipment, and rapid prototyping technologies
  • Expert-level troubleshooting skills, with a solid understanding of physics, chemistry and engineering fundamentals
  • In-depth understanding of sequencing chemistry and sequencing workflows
  • Proven track record of technical leadership, including successfully leading complex projects and mentoring junior technical staff
  • On-site (5 days) position based in Santa Clara, CA
  • A portion of the work will also take place in Pleasanton, CA

Desired Qualifications

  • High level of experience with DNA sequencing, DNA synthesizers and other complex fluidic automation instrumentation
  • Demonstrated track record of acting as a bridge between scientists and the hardware/consumables engineers
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple project tracks efficiently and thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
  • Experience working with a sense of urgency, contagious optimism, and natural curiosity regarding technical, business, and market trends
  • Demonstrated experience in SolidWorks for part design, detailed assembly design and the creation of manufacturing drawings
