Job Summary
Principal GNC & Trajectory Engineer serves to support the Missile Defense Agency Targets program office in target design, analysis, and test, focusing on guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), modeling and simulation (M&S), and vehicle performance assessments. Responsibilities include generating and analyzing 6-DoF/3-DoF trajectory data using TAOS and in-house tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C++), supporting flight test analysis and reporting, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and communicating technical information to senior DoD leaders. Requires a Master’s degree in a STEM field, 12+ years of DoD experience, active secret clearance (or ability to qualify), and proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, TAOS/STK, and related tools.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in STEM field
- Minimum 12 years of related DoD experience
- Active secret clearance or ability to quickly qualify for one
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, Java, C#, and other programming languages
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., TAOS, STK)
- Experience in missile trajectory analysis and coordinate frames
- Knowledge of satellite orbital mechanics, ephemeris, orbit propagation, perturbations, maneuver planning
- Strong communication skills
- Experience with target design, analysis, and test for the Targets program
- Ability to generate/analyze 6-DoF and 3-DoF trajectory data
- Experience with flight test data analysis and trajectory reconstruction
- Familiarity with DoD programs and processes
- Proficiency with data analysis and reporting
