Job Summary
Principal Federal HPC Technical Consultant, remote/teleworker role primarily from home, based in MD or Utah with a preference for those locations; provides technology consulting and leadership for extreme-scale HPC solutions, from requirements through deployment, with emphasis on Linux HPC clusters, storage/networking, and multi-vendor environments. Responsibilities include shaping technical direction, delivering architectures, leading customer engagements, mentoring engineers, supporting deal proposals and pre-sales activities, and ensuring security/compliance. Required and preferred credentials include US citizenship, high-level clearance readiness (TS/SCI with Poly preferred), and willingness to travel, along with extensive HPC and Linux expertise, and experience across MPI/OpenMP, Slurm, Lustre/GPFS/Ceph, and automation tools (Ansible, GitHub).
Required Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 3+ in HPC architecture, systems engineering, or large-scale infrastructure design
- Must be a United States citizen due to responsibilities and requirements of the role
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 30% of the time (travel could extend into several weeks)
- Experience configuring, deploying, and maintaining Linux-based HPC clusters and related storage/network infrastructure
- Ability to provide architectural guidance for compute, storage, networking, and workload management in HPC contexts
- Ability to lead customer engagements, provide technical leadership, and contribute to pre-sales activities
- Experience with multi-vendor HPC environments and tools (e.g., MPI/OpenMP, Slurm, Lustre, GPFS, Ceph)
- Experience with development/automation tools (e.g., Ansible, GitHub)
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearance (TS/SCI with Full Scope Poly preferred)
- Knowledge of secure IT practices and capability to operate in federal environments
- Strong communication skills for technical proposals and customer discussions
