Principal Engineer - Substaion Strutures

Civil Engineer leadership role focused on civil and structural design for substation infrastructure projects ranging from 11kV to 400kV, from concept through detailed design and construction. Responsibilities include designing foundations for transformers, circuit breakers, gantries and other substation equipment; cabling trenches, duct banks, drainage, access roads; earthworks strategies and site grading; reinforced concrete designs (RC plinths, bund walls, retaining walls); integrating geotechnical and structural inputs with electrical layouts; conducting design reviews and risk assessments; preparing calculations, drawings and specifications per UK standards (BS EN, Eurocodes, CDM); supporting feasibility studies, site assessments and ground investigations; liaising with DNO/TO technical teams and external stakeholders; coordinating with electrical/protection engineers and global design centres; delivering client engagement, technical presentations and tender contributions; managing team resources and project timelines; mentoring junior engineers; and providing relationship-building with project stakeholders. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartered status. Strong proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, Microstation, Civil 3D) and experience in UK Transmission & Distribution projects (11kV-400kV). Familiarity with NGTS and national/international standards, plus experience in multi-disciplinary energy transition projects. 12+ years of relevant experience and prior work with Grid Utilities substations is highly desirable.
