Job Summary

Principal Engineer - Secondary Substation to join AECOM's Transmission & Distribution team in India. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Protection & Control engineers and specialists; develop P&C solutions including key line diagrams, schematic diagrams, relay settings, SCADA topology diagrams, wiring diagrams, design specifications, and interface drawings for Transmission & Distribution clients. Act as Owner’s Engineer to review supplier designs and calculations for HV projects including BESS and Renewables. Conduct Protection Coordination Studies and Settings calculations using ETAP or similar software. Coordinate across multi-disciplinary engineering environments and project managers; support technical reports and bids; foster client relationships. Ensure adherence to design management processes; lead project and client meetings; mentor team members toward competency and professional accreditation. Ensure design submissions comply with IEEE, IEC, National Grid, and quality requirements. Drive innovation in AI, digital solutions, and scripting automation; develop user-defined dynamic and transient models. Perform QC review of design calculations/drawings; prepare technical specification sections; contribute to budgets and schedules. Qualifications include a Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent), 12-15 years of experience (preferred), CEng or PE license, and substantial HV substation design experience (132kV–400kV). The role requires working in a Hybrid arrangement with an AECOM office at least three days per week and in-person onboarding at an AECOM office per policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of Engineering degree (or equivalent) in engineering
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent
  • Experience in HV Plant Design for EHV Substations (132kV to 400kV)
  • Experience in Preparation of Substation Protection and Control Scheme drawings, Relay Coordination and Settings, Panel GA drawings, Substation SCADA and communication protocols
  • Experience leading large design engineering teams in grid substation projects (preferred)
  • Experience with HV Substations design for GRID utilities (preferred)
  • Exposure to IEC, IEEE, ANSI, Australian Standards, NEC, BS, Middle East codes (preferred)
