Job Summary
Design solution architecture and system design across the Listings portfolio, guiding technical direction for a broad, business-critical area. Prototype solutions, contribute to critical code, and solve complex engineering problems using agile practices while partnering with Engineering Managers to align technical strategy across squads. Mentor experienced engineers to grow the next generation of technical leaders and champion strong engineering practices and long-term system health. Engage in product discovery and early solution validation to shape the right technical approach before delivery. This role influences the direction of multiple squads within REA's Customer Platforms & Services team, which builds platforms underpinning key customer experiences for Australia's leading property resource.
Required Qualifications
- approximately 15 years of experience in engineering or related fields
- ideally in a dynamic, agile environment
- Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Scala, Java, or Kotlin
- Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Deep understanding of platform architecture and mindset
- Strong experience with modernization or transformation
- Proven experience influencing technical direction across squads, engineering leaders, architects, and product stakeholders
- Background in mentoring teams or leading cross-functional technical projects
- Experience guiding platform evolution, system modernisation, operational excellence, and engineering best practices
- Experience in operations and support of critical systems
