Job Summary
As a Principal Engineer, you will lead the AI-focused digital experience strategy and engineering across Meijer's eCommerce, mobile, and digital platforms. You will drive AI-enabled personalization, search, and customer-facing agents, shape modern web/mobile architectures, mentor senior engineers, and partner with product/UX/data teams to deliver omnichannel experiences. Responsibilities include setting long-term architectural direction, reducing technical debt, prototyping AI solutions, and ensuring scalable, secure, observable systems. The role emphasizes leadership, strategic thinking, and impact on customer satisfaction and revenue.
Required Qualifications
- Experience designing and delivering AI/ML or GenAI-powered applications in production environments
- Strong understanding of AI architecture patterns (prompt engineering, context management, vector databases, LLM orchestration, agent frameworks)
- Experience integrating AI into customer-facing digital products (personalization engines, recommendation systems, conversational interfaces)
- Familiarity with data pipelines, APIs, and cloud-based AI services
- Balance of hands-on technical depth with enterprise-level vision
