Job Summary
Principal Engineer for HVDC Electronic Hardware specializing in PCB Power Electronics. Serve as a recognized technical authority in HVDC Electronic Hardware both internally and externally, acting as an advisor to senior leadership. Drive internal and external standardization, coordinate working groups, and represent GE Vernova in IEC/CIGRE and related bodies. Support development and maintenance of a strategic HVDC Control & Protection Electronic Hardware technology roadmap, participate in Patent Evaluation Board activities, oversee R&D programs from conception through industrialization, and chair gate reviews. Collaborate across GE Vernova businesses to leverage synergies, mentor high-potential engineers, provide technical education to external universities, and deliver technical solutions for tendering and contract execution. Qualifications include a Masters degree or higher in power electronics-related field, extensive experience in HVDC valve technologies (VSC/LCC), firmware and PCB electronics, design tool proficiency, ability to travel, and strong leadership and communication skills. The role emphasizes applying state-of-the-art technology to resolve complex challenges and delivering robust, scalable HVDC hardware solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Masters degree or higher in a topic related to development of power electronic systems
- Proven experience in power electronics, converter topologies and firmware
- Low Voltage PCB electronics
- Control System and technologies relevant to HVDC
- Trade-offs in component selection and design
- Experience with firmware development
- Familiarity with industrial processes for power electronics manufacturing, testing, commissioning and maintenance
- Knowledge of standards and regulatory frameworks applicable to HVDC PCB electronics
- Experience with electronics design tools (mechanical layout, FPGA design and test)
- Patent evaluation, application and management
- Open to regular business travel
- Expertise in HVDC valve technologies (VSC and LCC) preferred
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to mentor engineering talents
- Ability to lead design reviews and governance in tendering/contract execution
- Experience with R&D project oversight and technology roadmapping
- Experience with quality issues and root cause analysis
- Experience interfacing with external universities/university collaborations
- Experience with product-development governance and best-practice technologies
- Ability to coordinate with multiple GE Vernova business lines
