Job Summary
Principal Staff Engineer – Data will define the long-term architectural vision for Freshworks' enterprise data platform and orchestrate decisions across ingestion, processing, storage, governance, analytics, and AI/ML enablement. Responsibilities include leading technology direction, designing scalable real-time streaming and high-volume batch data platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub), guiding Spark-based distributed processing, optimizing lakehouse architectures (Snowflake, Iceberg, Delta Lake, Databricks), establishing data governance, metadata management, and observability practices, and mentoring Staff-level and Senior engineers while aligning with executive stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or Data Architecture
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
- Experience with Snowflake, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis, Pub/Sub, Delta Lake, Iceberg, Databricks
- Experience with real-time and batch data processing
- Ability to lead architectural direction and mentor staff-level and senior engineers
- Experience with data governance, metadata management, and data quality
Desired Qualifications
- 15+ years of progressive individual contributor experience in Data Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, or Data Architecture
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related quantitative technical discipline
- Experience with lakehouse technologies such as Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Databricks
- Experience building data platforms supporting AI/ML, GenAI, feature stores, or training-data pipelines
- Experience with enterprise data governance, metadata management, cataloging, lineage, and observability platforms
- Track record of defining technical direction and delivering organization-wide platform transformations
- Mentor/leadership experience with Staff-level and Senior engineering talent
- Strong communication and alignment skills with executive stakeholders
