Principal Engineer - CPTO, BPL

Principal Software Engineer for Barclays’ Platform team. You’ll be an architect and builder shaping the internal developer platform, design and operate distributed systems with high availability and low latency, and mentor engineers across the organization. You’ll focus on developer experience, tooling, and governance to empower product teams to ship rapidly, while maintaining strong compliance and policy adherence. You’ll collaborate with product managers, designers, and business partners to translate requirements into robust technical solutions, drive innovation with new technologies and methodologies, and help set strategic direction for the platform and engineering organization. The successful candidate will be based in London with a hybrid pattern (3 days per week in the office) at Barclays’ offices, including Canary Wharf locations. The role emphasizes leadership behaviors, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to diverse stakeholders.
