Job Summary
Lead embedded firmware development for client projects from ideation through production, mentoring a product development team and providing technical leadership. Drive best practices across the firmware lifecycle, including source control, DevOps, and automated testing. Tackle complex hardware/firmware challenges, perform in-depth electrical characterization and debugging, and translate technical vision into actionable plans. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop unified system methodologies and support critical hardware demonstrations. Build scalable, robust firmware architectures and prototypes, while communicating effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- BS in computer science, electrical engineering, robotics, or a related field
- 15+ years of progressive experience in embedded firmware engineering
- Proficiency in C and C++
- Extensive experience with microcontrollers and peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C, USB, GPIO, ADC, PWM)
- Experience with embedded Linux runtimes (Raspbian, Yocto, Ubuntu, or others) and runtime environments (FreeRTOS, Zephyr) or bare-metal programming
- Experience with source code management tools (Git/Subversion) and Jira
- Project leadership experience including scoping and estimation; experience as a scrum team member and SCRUM master
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to lead projects and mentor engineers; hands-on architecting and system thinking
- Bonus: regulatory standards (FCC, UL) and medical device certification knowledge (ISO 13485, IEC 62304)
- Experience with ROS and QT in specialized runtimes
- Experience with development processes and DevOps practices
