Principal Electrical Engineer

Job Summary
Conduct detailed design of electrical networks for transmission or distribution, ensuring engineering calculations and technical assessments meet high standards for substation development, asset upgrades, and distributed generation connections. Develop and maintain AutoCAD and Revit models for substation layouts and equipment arrangements while leading project scoping, estimating, and ongoing project management delivery. Collaborate with the Australian team to deliver high-quality work for clients and multidisciplinary teams, supporting the growth of the NZ Energy offering through strategic reporting and business development. Requires 15+ years of experience, Chartered Status, and proficiency in design programs like NEARA or PLS CADD. Based in Wellington, Christchurch, or Auckland with opportunities to travel across government, private, and resource sectors.
Required Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (Washington Accord mandatory)
- Chartered Status (CPEng, RPEQ or equivalent)
- 15+ years of experience
- Experience in Substation or Transmission Lines or Distribution
- Demonstrated experience in delivering overhead or underground distribution network designs
- Network of clients/contacts within the industry
- Proficiency with using design programs such as AutoCAD, Revit, NEARA, PLS CADD or similar
- Effective communication skills with ability to work with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to travel as required
- Role can be based in Wellington or Christchurch or Auckland - New Zealand
- Full-time, part-time or job-share basis
