Principal EICA Engineer - Water / Wastewater

Job Summary
Lead discipline design delivery on multidisciplinary water/wastewater treatment projects across the full design lifecycle, acting as technical lead to own design strategy, key decisions, interfaces, risks, and deliverable quality. Review and approve calculations, specifications, reports, models, schedules, drawings, and supplier submissions while leading workshops, optioneering, value engineering, and design reviews. Promote lean, digitally enabled delivery through simulation, automation, and reusable tools, providing technical assurance to project managers on risk and resourcing. Mentor engineers and support recruitment, development, and chartership progression. Contribute to business development, bids, and client engagement to grow discipline capability. Requires BEng/MEng, chartered status, 8–10+ years experience, UK right to work, and hybrid working in London, Bristol, or Manchester.
Required Qualifications
- BEng/MEng or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
- Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer status with a relevant professional institution
- 8–10+ years' relevant experience, including substantial water/wastewater treatment, utilities, process, energy or infrastructure design experience
- Proven ability to act as discipline lead or senior technical lead on multidisciplinary projects
- Strong technical expertise in the relevant discipline, with ability to review, assure and approve complex design outputs
- Strong understanding of UK water industry standards, CDM 2015, safety-by-design, regulatory drivers and common delivery models
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces and resolve complex technical issues
- Strong digital mindset, with experience applying modelling, automation, data analysis or model-based workflows
- Confident client-facing communicator with experience leading workshops and technical discussions
- Experience mentoring or managing engineers and supporting technical capability development
- Right to work in the UK
Desired Qualifications
- Deep experience in one or more areas such as wastewater treatment, clean water treatment, sludge/bioresources, water reuse, nutrient removal, pumping, package systems, EICA/control systems, energy optimisation or low-carbon design
- Experience delivering AMP8, WINEP, SRO, D&B, framework, alliance or contractor-led projects
- Experience developing design standards, technical guidance, calculation tools, QA processes or reusable digital workflows
- Experience contributing to recruitment, resource planning, bid writing, technical proposals, client presentations or new service development
