Job Summary
Principal Ecologist to lead field surveys, data analysis and report writing across Queensland/Australia, mentor junior ecologists, and contribute to tender preparation and proposals. Responsibilities include providing high-quality ecological advice to clients and colleagues, participating in field survey programs for ecological data collection, interpreting environmental legislation for projects, developing technical reports for environmental impact assessment and management, project management including invoicing and budget tracking, assisting in tenders and proposals, building and maintaining a client network to grow the North Queensland pipeline, leading field trips and mentoring staff, integrating ecological work into multidisciplinary assessments, and traveling to remote areas to conduct field surveys.
Required Qualifications
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in Science, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resources or related field
- 6+ years' experience in an ecological role in the environmental consulting sector or equivalent government role
- Experience in the design and implementation of flora and fauna field surveys and monitoring programs
- Excellent flora and fauna identification skills
- Mature report writing and computer skills with ability to prepare high quality written material for publication
- Proven ability to manage deadlines and multiple tasks
- Proven project management experience relating to client management and budget control
- Travel to remote areas, including interstate, to conduct field survey programs
