Principal Ecologist - BNG Specialist

Job Summary
Lead biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments for infrastructure and development projects across the UK, produce and technically review BNG feasibility and design stage reports, NBB assessments and BNG assessments; work closely with the UK&I BNG lead to develop the BNG Vision; upskill ecologists across the business; support consultation with clients and project stakeholders including planning authorities, statutory bodies and the public; contribute to development of technical capabilities and digital biodiversity tools; lead bids and tenders for ecological and BNG services; mentor and support junior staff and peers. The role sits within AECOM's Nature team across UK locations with a flexible hybrid working model and opportunities to contribute to diverse ecology projects and career development.
Required Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or an associated subject
- membership of an appropriate professional institution
- Experience of leading BNG assessments on large scale infrastructure projects
- Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
- Experience of interpreting UKHabs data and Habitat Condition Assessments
- Experience of reviewing technical work, supporting wider team members, and bidding/tendering
