Principal Ecologist - BNG Specialist

Job Summary
Lead biodiversity net gain (BNG) assessments for infrastructure and development projects across the UK. Deliver BNG inputs and a range of biodiversity assessments (BNG feasibility/design-stage, NBB assessments, BNG) for internal and external clients; mentor and upskill ecologists; collaborate with the BNG lead for UK&I to advance BNG capabilities; engage with planning authorities, statutory bodies, and the public; drive innovation and development of digital biodiversity tools; lead bids and tenders for ecological/BNG services; support junior staff and peers.
Required Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent) in ecology or an associated subject, and a membership of an appropriate professional institution
- Experience of leading BNG assessments on large scale infrastructure projects
- Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
- Experience of interpreting UKHabs data and Habitat Condition Assessments
- Experience of reviewing technical work, supporting wider team members, and bidding/tendering
