Job Summary
Principal Developer-Builder at Boeing Digital Services leads end-to-end delivery of a product capability, designs solutions with Product and Design partners, and guides a small development team to build production-grade, cloud-native applications. Responsibilities include owning technical scope, shaping architecture, implementing frontend/backend/APIs and integrations, applying AI/ML/LLM capabilities, building CI/CD pipelines, making architecture tradeoffs, surfacing technical risks, and driving knowledge sharing. The role includes acting as Builder Lead to mentor engineers, promoting AI-assisted development methods, and communicating technical decisions to product and leadership. Requires 7+ years in software development, full-stack experience, leadership experience, and a BS in a technical field (MS preferred), with hybrid work in Seattle or Denver.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience in an application development role, performing core activities across the software lifecycle- from requirements gathering and design to coding, testing, integrations, deployments, and production support
- 7+ years proven experience with full-stack web development
- 7+ years of experience with modern software product development, integration, and delivery
- 4+ years of experience supporting an AI or ML development team
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role (i.e., manager, project manager, team lead, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field is generally required for this role.
- An advanced degree such as a Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related discipline is preferred
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language and framework commonly used for production software development
- Experience integrating AI, ML, or LLM capabilities into software applications
- Experience building or integrating AI/ML/LLM-powered product features in production
- Experience with modern cloud platforms and application delivery tooling
- Experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable cloud-native applications
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, version control, and delivery practices
- Experience working in complex enterprise environments with distributed systems and multi-team dependencies
- Experience making architecture tradeoffs balancing scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, latency, cost, and delivery speed
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across Product, Design, Engineering, and Operations to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical solutions and measurable outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to coach and uplift other engineers through pairing, code review, and technical mentorship
- Experience working in aerospace or industrial industries preferred
