Job Summary
Lead design-for-manufacturability activities for packaging of electronic parts in aerospace/defense contexts. Review layouts and designs for in-assembly manufacturability, drive design reviews, and deliver feedback that improves product integrity. Engage with internal service centers and external contract manufacturers to resolve assembly and workmanship challenges, and collaborate with Mission Assurance to support quality investigations and continuous improvement. Apply DFM/DFA best practices early in product development, using CAD to create concepts, gather materials, test usability and safety, and oversee production standards. Mentor less experienced engineers and develop, document, and teach best practices while identifying program-level technical risks and implementing mitigation strategies. Requires hands-on microelectronics packaging experience, knowledge of MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-PRF-38535, AS9100 environments, and strong cross-functional communication.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant field
- 10-15 years experience in Product Engineering or related
- Hands-on experience in microelectronics packaging for high-reliability or aerospace applications
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534 and MIL-PRF-38535
- Experience collaborating with layout/design engineers, supply chain, and manufacturing teams
- Ability to lead design reviews and provide actionable feedback
- Proven problem-solving in cross-functional teams
- Ability to independently drive solutions and mitigate technical risks
