Job Summary
Principal Data Engineer role bridging business opportunities and technical data solutions. Hands-on leadership across data platform design, implementation of scalable data pipelines, data quality and observability, coaching engineers, and ensuring alignment with platform standards. Hybrid working with occasional office visits to Manchester, Haywards Heath, or Guernsey. Strong emphasis on Azure, Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, Synapse Analytics, Power BI, and end-to-end SDLC experience.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience designing and building end-to-end data solutions (10+ years)
- Experience with Microsoft Azure data platforms
- Databricks, PySpark, Spark SQL
- Delta Lake
- Synapse Analytics
- Python and SQL
- BI tooling (Power BI)
- Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and observability
- Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban)
- Unit testing and code quality practices
- Strong collaboration and mentoring skills
- Experience with Terraform or Bicep (IaC)
- Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD
- Data lakehouse architectures and dimensional modelling (Kimball)
- Secure, scalable Azure environments (RBAC, PIM, network isolation)
