Job Summary
Principal Consultant, Hydrologist • Lead the Integrated Water Resources team within ERM’s mining-focused water practice, providing oversight, technical strength, and guidance across hydrology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, and toxicology. Drive environmental impact assessments, permitting, risk assessment, water resources management, and site closure for large-scale mining projects. Serve as a main point of contact for clients, contribute to business development, and lead technical document preparation while mentoring junior staff. The role emphasizes leadership, strategic growth, and strong client relationships, with a hybrid work model allowing Boston office, remote, or mixed arrangements. Base pay range $110,190–$160,905 with potential bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field
- 8+ years (15+ years preferred) of consulting experience in water resource management, impact assessment and permitting in the mining sector
- Expertise in hydrometeorology, water balance and/or geochemical modeling, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling and modeling of environmental water quality
- Strong knowledge of regulatory drivers within mining and energy sector
- High technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices
- Team building and influencing skills; integrity; client and business development capabilities
- Strong English writing and presentation skills
- Experience leading water-related environmental assessments and permitting for large-scale capital projects in the mining sector
- Ability to build long-term client relationships
- Experience managing and mentoring staff
