Job Summary
Principal will provide leadership, supervision, and oversight for all academic and support staff (teachers, teaching assistants, behavior specialists) delivering education for both Residential and Day School programs. The role focuses on student safety, academic growth, and maintaining a trauma-informed, equitable school culture, while promoting evidence-based instructional strategies and staff support to meet diverse student needs. Responsibilities include leadership and supervision of staff, instructional leadership aligned to state standards and IEP goals, staff development and coaching, managing student records and confidentiality, ensuring compliance with educational laws and standards, and fostering collaboration with departments, schools, and families. The role emphasizes a positive, trauma-informed school environment and data-driven progress reporting, with opportunities for merit-based growth and engagement with the broader CHS mission to Work for Good.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field
- Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate or ability to obtain
- Extensive experience in classroom teaching and school leadership
- Background checks and pre-employment checks
- Ability to implement trauma-informed, evidence-based teaching practices
- Experience with state standards and IEP goals
- Leadership in hiring, staff development, and performance evaluations
- Knowledge of DOE, Agency, and COA standards
- Ability to monitor and improve student achievement measures (e.g., NWEA MAP)
- Confidentiality and appropriate handling of student records
- Ability to operate in a trauma-informed, inclusive school environment
- Experience with special education compliance and safety requirements
