Job Summary
Senior Principal Cable System Design Engineer role leading HV/EHV cable system design across concept to delivery for large-scale infrastructure programs. Responsibilities include routing, burial risk assessments, thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical performance modelling; developing and approving cable system ratings, installation methodologies, jointing, cleating design, and system integration in challenging environments; guiding complex calculations (ampacity, short circuit forces, EMC, induced voltages, thermomechanical forces) to meet standards (National Grid TPs, IEC, CIGRÉ); coordinating with civil, structural, OHL, substation, and marine disciplines; driving project execution, technical risk management, and quality reviews; conducting 3rd-party inspections and vendor oversight; mentoring and capability growth within the team; supporting business development through proposals and client presentations. Emphasis on collaboration with leading and innovating industry experts in a flexible hybrid work model.
Required Qualifications
- Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or related field; MSc/MEng advantageous; Chartered Engineer status desirable or in progress; National Grid CDAE certification or similar; experience with cable system software (e.g., CYMCAP, WinCable) and advanced analysis tools
