Job Summary
Principal Architect to lead and conduct research and innovation in optical communication technologies for the cable industry. Responsibilities include leading coherent optical projects for next-generation PONs, configuring end-to-end optical links, characterizing coherent transceivers, designing DSP algorithms for continuous- and burst-mode systems, innovating next-generation optical access network architectures, driving convergence of optical and wireless/radio access networks, developing low-complexity coherent transceivers, contributing to FEC encoding/decoding and channel estimation, leading proof-of-concept demonstrations, coordinating with cable operators, vendors, and academia, interfacing with vendors to develop products based on next-generation PON specs, supporting co-development and co-innovation projects, and supporting academic partnerships and regulatory policy experts. The role involves research, design, lab testing, field trials, and collaboration across industry and academia. It requires hands-on lab experience, deep knowledge of optical networks, signal processing, and programming for simulation and modeling.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics, or equivalent experience
- PhD in a similar field(s) is preferred
- 8+ years of simulation and lab expertise in optical and wireless/mobile communication systems and networks
- Hands-on experience with high-speed optical and electrical test, measurement equipment control and data acquisition
- Experience of free-space optics, fiber sensing, semiconductor lasers, and opto-electronics
- Understanding fiber optic channel and digital communication theory
- Expertise of optical coherent and direct detection systems, modeling, testing, debugging, and digital signal processing
- In-depth understanding of operation and functioning of MAC layers for point-to-multipoint topology
- Knowledge in optical, cable, and wireless access networks and the corresponding standards and specifications (DOCSIS, Wi-Fi, LTE, 5G, xPON)
- Proficient in MATLAB or Python/C/C++ programming language and optical simulation tools
