Job Summary
Principal Architect – Facilities at Tampa Electric Company responsible for fleet-wide technical authority on building and facility-related capital projects. Provides advanced architectural/engineering design oversight and lifecycle guidance for upgrades, replacements, and new construction across commercial assets. Serves as SME for building systems, coordinating with project managers, engineering disciplines, operations, and external consultants to ensure safe, resilient, cost-effective, and constructible solutions. Leads scope development, design criteria, quality assurance, and technical risk management through all project phases; reviews consultant deliverables, conducts design reviews, identifies value engineering opportunities, ensures code compliance and permitting, supports commissioning and turnover, and collaborates with Project Management, Project Controls, Procurement, and Construction teams to align schedule, budget, and deliverables. Requires Florida-registered Architect or Professional Engineer; 8 years of heavy industry/utility project engineering experience; ABET-accredited BS in Architecture or Engineering, with prefered master's. Strong knowledge of commercial design practices, building systems (HVAC, lighting, fire protection), code coordination, and multidisciplinary design coordination; effective communication and leadership to guide diverse project teams.
Required Qualifications
- Registration as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the State of Florida
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Engineering from an ABET-accredited four-year college
