Principal Android Engineer

Lead architecture and technical direction for the Arlo Android app with hands-on coding and feature delivery. Own modularization, state management, navigation, networking, and architectural patterns; drive large-scale refactors (e.g., to Jetpack Compose) and migrations while keeping the app shippable. Mentor engineers, partner with product/design/backend/firmware/QA to align on feasibility and sequencing. Champion observability, testing strategy, CI/CD, and performance budgets; improve crash-free sessions and live-view latency. Focus on real-time video streaming, secure notifications, background/foreground services, and battery/performance constraints. Set AI-assisted development practices, guardrails for AI-generated code, and ensure architecture quality. Success in the first year includes a documented architecture that ramps new engineers quickly, measurable app-health improvements, and a healthier delivery pipeline. Salary range USD 215,000–295,000/year with potential bonuses/equity and full benefits.
