Principal AI Platform Engineer

Job Summary
Senior Principal AI Platform Engineer responsible for the technical vision and scale of MaintainX's AI platform. Own architecture for the Agent/Skill/Tool ecosystem, scale context graphs from large volumes of manuals and work orders into intelligent, cross-asset reasoning, and deliver a robust developer experience with agent orchestration, tool registries, and observability. Lead cross-division alignment across Plant Setup, Maintenance Planning, Maintenance Execution, Reliability Engineering, Parts & Purchasing, and Reporting. Requires 10+ years in software, 3+ years in production ML/LLM systems, and a proven track record of principal-level technical leadership. Strong Python backend expertise, API/service/data pipeline design, and the ability to write and advocate for architectural decisions. Role is based in SF, Toronto, or Montreal hubs or remote across the US/Canada; offered compensation includes base, equity, and variable components, with flexible work arrangements.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with significant depth in backend systems, distributed architecture, or platform / infrastructure engineering
- 3+ years building ML or LLM-powered systems in production, with real operating experience around evaluation, latency, cost, and reliability
- A track record of company-wide technical leadership at the Principal level
- Internal platform experience where customers are other engineers; developer experience as a product
- Strong Python backend expertise, with experience designing APIs, services, and data pipelines
- Ability to write a clear design document, facilitate a technical decision across teams, and represent engineering externally with credibility
