Job Summary

Lead strategic financial planning and reporting for Transport activities, including budget submissions and fiscal updates. Provide financial advice for transport policy and contribute to ministerial briefings or cabinet papers. Collaborate across Ministry teams and with Treasury to strengthen financial oversight, while supporting the preparation of annual financial statements, audits, and responses to parliamentary requests. Mentor junior staff and drive improvements to Vote management processes and financial systems. This senior role ensures quality advice is delivered as the Ministry modernizes its financial frameworks.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven knowledge and experience leading machinery of government and public sector finance processes and systems
  • Strong understanding of annual budget cycle requirements
  • Understanding of policy development
  • Understanding of appropriation processes
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships and networks across a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience engaging stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity
  • Proactive approach to problem solving
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Membership of a relevant professional accounting/financial management body
  • Right to live and work in New Zealand
