Principal Actuation Systems Electrical Lead

Job Summary

Lead complex actuation system design, test execution, and production support for high-performance motion control challenges including array deployment and platform stabilization. Manage medium-sized projects across the full product lifecycle from conceptualization to verification testing while mentoring team members and driving execution within an Integrated Product Team. Apply systems engineering principles to define technical solutions for electromechanical and electrohydraulic control systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on electrical, mechanical, and software integration. Work autonomously with limited oversight to influence engineering teams and support strategic vision for the Radar Power and Digital organization.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1
  • Requires a bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
  • minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
  • Experience with electromagnetic or electrohydraulic control actuation systems
  • This position is an onsite role
  • Regular travel to Tewksbury, MA; Marlborough, MA; Andover, MA; Woburn, MA; and/or Pelham, NH may be required depending on the assignment
  • Travel to supplier or customer sites may also be required (up to 10%)

Desired Qualifications

  • Eight (8) years of experience with actuation systems or motion controls
  • Experience developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems across multiple parts of the product lifecycle such as proposal, design, manufacture, integration and test
  • Ability to estimate project / tasks level of effort and to deconstruct higher level tasks into discrete lower-level work packages and tasks
  • Ability to articulate, in both oral and written form, to technical, non-technical and management audiences
  • Experience with feedback control systems, including control theory, system sizing, testing and integration, design to manufacturing, kinematic and dynamic simulation and analysis
  • Experience developing system-based models using Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with Hardware-In-The-Loop development and tools such as dSpace
  • Experience in design and development of test equipment for electromechanical systems that operate under high load and rate
  • Experience in Failure Investigation Teams with FRACAS / FRB / RCCA
  • Experience in working with control actuation systems that employ permanent magnet brush and brushless DC motor technology and with different actuation drive systems including trapezoidal drive, sine drive and field-oriented control
  • Experience with actuation communication busses; electromechanical actuators (using gears, ballscrews, leadscrews etc); position sensors; electronic controllers and power amplifiers
  • Basic understanding of packaging electromechanical systems for management of grounding, shielding and electrical noise in compact designs
  • Familiarity with command-line interfaces, Unix systems, networks, and software
  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major
  • Prior experience as engineering Project or Team Lead (hardware, electrical or integration)
  • Existing US DoD security clearance
